Considering separation

We regularly work with clients prior to separation. We can assist you by identifying the legal implications for your specific circumstances, and prompt you to undertake the necessary due diligence, before you take that step.

As a minimum, we will conduct a consultation with and educate you about, for example: → The difference between separation and divorce, and why the date of separation can be important (particularly depending on whether you are married or in a de facto relationship). → The legal frameworks for property settlement and other financial matters that may become relevant in your circumstances. We advise you about what steps may be prudent for you to take from a financial perspective to best set yourself up for achieving your goals through the property settlement process. We also assist you in identifying various financial documents that you may need to access prior to separation. → Various risks that you and/or your children may face if you choose to leave a relationship that is characterised by domestic violence, or if your partner suffers from mental ill-health or drug dependency issues. We can assist you in putting in place a safety plan where necessary and appropriate. If you are considering separation and divorce, we encourage you to reach out to discuss your circumstances with us before you make that decision.
